Anchorage
The Anchorage section covers the Historical development of anchorage from the 1700's to present, with both the original Definition of anchorage from 1923 as well as the current definition. Many Traditional Appliances have been used in an attempt to overcome the limitations of precisely moving certain teeth by building up anchorage of other teeth. Several of these appliances are shown, along with their benefits and weaknesses. Over the years, several different anchorage Classification systems have been developed. These will be introduced and explained. However, they no longer adequately describe our clinical capabilities in light of the recently developing field of Temporary Anchorage Devices. Therefore, a New Classification of anchorage has been developed and will be introduced and explained.
