BIOGRAPHY

During his young career, Dr. Cope has published 34 abstracts, 18 refereed journal articles, 27 book chapters, a research handbook, as well as co-edited a multimedia CD-ROM and a 600-page textbook on distraction osteogenesis. In addition, he has given over 80 lectures nationally and internationally. He has also been recognized with 6 national awards for his distraction research. He has been an investigator on 21 funded research grants and served as a course faculty member at 20 national and international meetings. Dr. Cope is an ad hoc reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics, The Angle Orthodontist, and Archives of Oral Biology, the Journal of Dental Research, serves as the associate editor for Quintessence International, and was the guest editor for the March 2005 issue of Seminars In Orthodontics on Temporary Anchorage Devices. Currently, he is also editing a textbook on Temporary Anchorage Devices. Dr. Cope’s private practice is located in University Park, Texas where he treats patients 4 days a week and continues both clinical and basic science research on temporary implants for orthodontic anchorage. In March 2002, he passed the American Board of Orthodontics exam, becoming the first person to complete ABO Option 2, and one of the youngest orthodontist ever to become a Diplomate. In July 2004, he presented his scientific paper to become a full member of the SW component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists.
